Team Norms

What makes a team successful? What are the most critical norms of high performance teams? How do you establish team norms?

10 Steps for Establishing Team Norms:

1️⃣Ask each member to think of the worst team they’ve served on. Any group counts — a work team, a volunteer group, a sports team — as long as the members were dependent on each other to produce results.

2️⃣Have each team member spend 2 minutes writing down what made that experience so terrible. Direct them to be as specific as possible about their reasons.

3️⃣Ask team members to share their experiences with the whole group.

4️⃣Ask each member to think of their best team experience. As with the negative experience, each team member should spend 2 minutes writing down what made the experience so good.

5️⃣As before, encourage team members to share their experiences with the whole team.

6️⃣With these comments in mind, discuss as a group what makes for a good team experience and what makes for a bad one.

7️⃣Ask team members to suggest behaviors and team norms that would contribute to the current team’s success. Pay attention to the most relevant issues or actions that could affect the team’s biggest challenges. Be sure to keep track of suggestions on a screen or large sheet of paper that all team members can view.

8️⃣Discuss the suggestions as a group and decide as a group which ones the team can support and adhere to.

As part of this step, flag any concerns or challenges that the team thinks they may struggle with. Even if you can’t identify a solid solution, doing this keeps reality in the forefront.

9️⃣Discuss how to respond to a team member who doesn’t follow the norms. What is the mechanism for dealing with this situation? Ideally, the team members will take ownership of team norms, calling out inconsistencies and violations rather than expecting the team leader to police the process.

🔟Transfer the team’s list of “must-do” behaviors into a document so all team members have access to it. Your team may choose to post the list of team norms electronically or in its regular meeting room for quick reference.

five practical tips for staying resilient in our personal and professional lives:

"The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible." - Charles Kingsleigh (Alice in Wonderland)

"Don't watch the clock; do what it does.

Keep going." - Sam Levenson

Here are five practical tips for staying resilient in our personal and professional lives:

🥚1. Believe in Yourself: Sometimes the only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible. This means having faith in yourself and your abilities, regardless of what challenges may come your way. Remind yourself of your skills, your strengths, and your past successes, and use them to fuel your resilience.

🥚2. Embrace Challenges: Life is not always easy, and challenges and setbacks are inevitable. By embracing these challenges instead of fearing them, you can develop your resilience as you work through them. Every obstacle is an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient.

🥚3. Practice Self-Care: Staying resilient means taking care of yourself both physically and mentally. Make time for exercise, healthy eating, and getting enough rest. Make time for the things you enjoy, and find ways to manage stress and anxiety.

🥚4. Seek Support: Resilience doesn't mean going it alone. Reach out to friends, family, or colleagues when you need support. Don't be afraid to ask for help or guidance when you need it, and be open to feedback and constructive criticism.

🥚5. Stay Focused: Finally, staying resilient means keeping your focus on your goals and staying motivated even when things get tough. Break tasks down into manageable steps, celebrate small successes along the way, and stay positive and optimistic about the future. Remember, hard work is essential for your existence, so keep going no matter what challenges you may face.

Message for all Parents

 A Message for all Parents:

Watch While You Talk ! If your child intentionally disturbs you, it may be because they feel a lack of physical affection from you. If your child talks back to you, it could be because they observe you doing the same to others and perceive it as normal behaviour. If your child frequently tells lies, it may be because they feel you react too harshly to their inappropriate behaviour. If your child tends to take things that don't belong to them, it could be because you rarely let them make their own choices when buying them things. If your child doesn't feel comfortable confiding in you about their mistakes, it means they have lost trust in your support. If your child tends to be secretive, it may be because they don't trust that you will handle things calmly and proportionately. If your child finds it difficult to stand up for themselves, it might be because they have experienced regular public discipline from an early age. If your child struggles with low self-esteem, it could be because you tend to give them advice rather than providing encouragement. If your child displays cowardly behaviour, it may be because you always rush to their aid too quickly. If your child easily gets angry, it may be because you pay more attention to their misbehaviour and less attention to their good behaviour. If your child lacks respect for other people's feelings, it could be because you often resort to ordering and commanding them instead of engaging in conversation. If your child exhibits excessive jealousy, it might be because you only acknowledge their achievements when they successfully complete something, rather than recognizing their progress and improvement even if they don't fully succeed. If your child openly defies you, it might be because you make threats but fail to follow through with them. If your child doesn't listen to you but listens to others, it might be because you make hasty decisions without considering their perspective. If your child rebels, it could be because they believe you prioritize others' opinions over what is morally right or wrong. Help others

"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." - Pablo Picasso

“The greatest gift we can give someone is our time — we’re giving a portion of our life that we will never get back.” - Kat Downen

Here are 5 ways we can help others without expecting anything in return in our personal and professional lives to be successful:

🦅 1. Volunteer our time: Find a cause we are passionate about and volunteer our time. Whether it’s at a homeless shelter, food bank, or helping children learn to read, volunteering our time is an excellent way to give back to others.

🦅2. Listen to others: Sometimes people just need someone to talk to. Offer to listen to friends, family, or co-workers when they need an ear. By doing so, we are showing them that we care and value their thoughts and opinions.

🦅3. Help a co-worker: Offer to help a co-worker on a project or task. By doing so, we are not only showing that we are a team player, but we are also helping to build stronger relationships with those we work with.

🦅4. Make a donation: If we have the means, consider making a donation to a charity or organization that we support. Whether it’s a small monthly donation or a larger one-time gift, every little bit helps.

🦅5. Teach others: If we have a skill or talent that others could benefit from, offer to teach them. This could be something related to our profession or a hobby you enjoy. By sharing our knowledge, we are helping others to grow and learn, which can be incredibly rewarding.

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." - Jane Goodall

Our thoughts and actions impact the world around us and the people in it.

Here are practical tips for having a sustainable impact in our professional lives:

💧1. Be proactive: Don't wait for opportunities to come to you - actively seek them out and grab them with both hands. Take the initiative to solve problems and go above and beyond in your work.

💧2. Be mindful of your impact: Each action you take in the workplace can have far-reaching consequences. Consider how your actions could impact your colleagues, customers, and the company as a whole before making decisions.

💧3. Focus on your strengths: Rather than trying to be good at everything, hone in on your strengths and leverage them to make a meaningful impact in your role.

💧4. Foster positive relationships: Build strong professional relationships with your colleagues and superiors, and be supportive of their goals and achievements. Collaborate and communicate effectively to achieve shared goals.

💧5. Embrace learning and growth: Be open to new opportunities for learning and growth, whether through taking on new projects, attending seminars and workshops, or seeking feedback from your colleagues. Focus on continuous improvement and strive to be the best that you can be in your role.

🍀6. Be Kind: In this wild, wild world of professionals, let's not forget the underrated superpower called 'Kindness.' Yes, it might not have the razzle-dazzle of terms like 'synergy' or 'optimization,' but boy, does it pack a punch! A word of encouragement, a friendly email, or a simple 'Thank You' can act as sunshine on a cloudy day, inspiring colleagues to reach their potential. So let's sprinkle that kindness around like confetti at a carnival!

🍀7. Foster a Culture of Empathy: Empathy is the soul's radar, picking up on the signals that others often miss. In the professional world, it translates into understanding the perspectives of your colleagues, superiors, and clients. Empathy can help us navigate the turbulent seas of miscommunication, misunderstanding, and conflict. And when used right, it can turn a group of individuals into a well-oiled, collaborative machine.

5 reasons to give without expecting anything in return

Our most direct path happiness can be found when we freely give our joy to others. Agree?

Here are 5 reasons to give without expecting anything in return:

1. When we give without expecting anything in return, blessings have a way of finding their way back to us. It allows us to help others just for the sake of helping, without any ulterior motive or desire for recognition.

2. Giving without expecting recognition helps to cultivate a sense of humility, as we are not seeking validation for our actions.

3. We can feel good knowing that we were able to make a difference in someone else's life, even if nobody else knows about it.

4. Giving anonymously or without seeking recognition can also inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of kindness and generosity.

5. Finally, giving without expecting recognition shows that we are motivated by a genuine desire to help others, not by a desire for personal gain or recognition. This can earn us respect and admiration from others over time, without having to seek it out.

seven principles of action-oriented leadership

Are you an overthinker or a procrastinator? Then these seven principles of action-oriented leadership are for you. They help you get things moving and get things done.

Principle 1. Perfect Is the Enemy of Good Aiming for something great—especially if it is the “perfect” strategy, policy or plan—can get in the way of effective leadership. Keep the 80/20 rule in mind. Principle 2. You Can’t Have it Both Ways You most likely do not have the luxury to get everything you want. Instead, you have to set priorities and make tough decisions about what to do and what not to do. Principle 3: Find 10,000 Ways that Don’t Work Rather than sitting behind your desk or discussing things in a meeting room, effective leadership means you put things to the test, learn from this, and adjust. Principle 4: Persist by Pulling Out While persistence is crucial for effective leadership, you should also be realistic. Be ready to pull out of the plan that you are pursuing once you find that it is not feasible. Principle 5: Keep it Simple The right mindset is to keep things as simple as they can be. Not simpler, but also not more complicated. Principle 6: No Place for HiPPOs A HiPPO is someone who believes that the Highest Paid Person’s Opinion is all that counts. Embrace the possibility that others might know better. Principle 7: Just Do It This tagline captures exactly the kind of mindset needed for effective leadership: a focus on action rather than on endless deliberation. Apply these seven principles and you will be more successful in creating actual change and movement. And not just for yourself. Also with the people you lead. Just do it. #changemanagement #leadershipskills #managementdevelopment

such decisions in terms of categories, or buckets of initiatives. There are four of them:

Making choices and setting priorities is the pinnacle of strategy. It’s probably also the hardest part. Because, how to decide what to do, what not to do, and what to do first?

There are many approaches to decision-making and priority setting. There’s the Eisenhower Matrix (Urgency vs. Importance), the Effort-Ease Matrix (Effort vs. Ease…) and a whole set of complex analytical techniques.

My approach is slightly different. Instead of using a set of criteria to evaluate possible initiatives, I’d rather think about such decisions in terms of categories, or buckets of initiatives. There are four of them:

1. Quick Wins. Initiatives that require low effort and that create goodwill and immediate change and results.

2. Major Leaps. Initiatives that make a high impact and address fundamental changes that need to be made.

3. Critical Steps. Initiatives that are necessary to enable or start other, often more important initiatives.

4. Energy Boosters. Initiatives that cause excitement and motivate people, preferably for a longer time.

All four are important:

• Miss Quick Wins, and it takes too long before anything happens.

• Miss Major Leaps, and the real issues are never addressed.

• Miss Critical Steps, and you run into problems later on.

• Miss Energy Boosters, and the change process stagnates.

The trick is to see them as categories and not as criteria. So, instead of evaluating every option or initiative against all four, you select one or more initiatives in every category.

At any point in time, I try to make sure that there is at least one thing going on in each of them. In this way, you are focusing both on the decisions and changes that make a difference for the organization (through Major Leaps and Critical Steps) and at the same time keep your people engaged (through Quick Wins and Energy Boosters).

Now, look at your organization and how it is making progress with its strategy implementation, change efforts, or projects. Are all four buckets filled? And if not, which one(s) are missing?

Five Practical tips for taking action in our professional lives and make things happen

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not." ~ Kat Downen

Don't let fear hold you back from achieving your dreams. Use it to ignite the fire within you to take action and make things happen. 🔥

Here are 5 practical tips for taking action in our professional lives and make things happen:

🔥1. Create a clear vision of what you want to achieve: Write down your goals and dreams and be specific about what you want to achieve professionally. Having a clear vision will help you take action towards achieving your dreams.

🔥2. Develop a plan and take small steps: Break down your goals into small, achievable steps that you can take every day. This will help you not feel overwhelmed and take some action every day.

🔥3. Identify your strengths and weaknesses: Take time to identify your strengths and areas where you need improvement. Knowing what you are good at and what you're not so good at will empower you to take action and improve your performance.

🔥4. Surround yourself with positive people: Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you. This will help you to overcome any fear and inspire you to take action.

🔥5. Learn from your failures: Don't be afraid of failure as it is a part of the journey to success. Instead, learn from your failures and use them as an opportunity to grow and take more informed and confident action in the future.

Perhaps success is not the absence of fear, it's the courage to face it head on and keep moving forward.

Five ways we can show kindness and empathy in our professional lives

"Empathy is about finding echoes of another person in yourself." - Mohsin Hamid

"The greatest gift you can give someone is your kindness, because it makes someone feel right at home even when they're not." - Carol Rifka Brunt

Everyone we meet is fighting a battle we know nothing about. Kindness and empathy can go a long way in making their fight a little easier.

Here are five ways we can show kindness and empathy in our professional lives:

🎯1. Listen actively: In work environments, it's common to be caught up in our own task lists and goals. However, actively listening to our colleagues' concerns, opinions, and challenges can show empathy. It can make them feel heard and valued, thus strengthening your working relationships.

🎯2. Offer support: Kindness can take many forms, and offering support is one of them. Sometimes, a colleague might be struggling with work overload, personal issues, or just feeling demotivated. Offering support, whether through a helping hand or just a kind word, can help alleviate their stress and make them feel valued.

🎯3. Avoid judgment: Empathy is about putting ourself in another person's shoes. It's important to avoid judging others based on their work style, communication style, or personal background. Instead, focus on understanding their perspectives and respecting their differences.

🎯4. Celebrate successes: Acknowledging and celebrating achievements can go a long way. Whether it's a small win or a big one, recognizing someone's success can show empathy and build a sense of community within a work environment.

🎯5. Look for opportunities to help: Being proactive is another way to show kindness and empathy. Look for opportunities where we can offer support, help a colleague with their workload, or simply offer a word of encouragement. This can foster a positive work culture and make our colleagues feel appreciated and supported.

5's Practical tips for approaching life's challenges with resilience and a growth mindset

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us." - Helen Keller

Sometimes “Life gets lifey.” ~ Kat Downen Here are 5 practical tips for approaching life’s challenges with resilience and a growth mindset: 🪜 1. Learn from failures: One of the key elements of success is learning from our failures and getting back up every time we fall. Rather than giving up or feeling discouraged, analyze the situation and figure out what went wrong and how we can approach similar situations differently in the future. 🪜2. Embrace change: Life is full of ups and downs and sometimes we might not get what we want. However, it is important to remain optimistic and embrace new opportunities that come our way. We should always be on the lookout for new doors of opportunity, even if they don't appear to be the ones we originally wanted. 🪜3. Set realistic goals: Goal setting is integral to success in any aspect of life. However, it is important that we set daily achievable goals for ourselves, rather than aiming for the impossible. Setting achievable goals daily and consistently helps us stay motivated, maintain focus and make progress that adds up over time. 🪜4. Focus on the present: It is important to remember that dwelling on the past or worrying about the future will prevent us from enjoying the present moment. Rather than constantly worrying about what is to come, focus on the present and what needs to be done to achieve our goals. 🪜5. Continuously improve: Personal and professional growth is a never-ending journey. We should always be looking for ways to sharpen our skills, gain knowledge, and improve ourselves in every aspect of life. Continuous learning helps us stay relevant in our field and grow as individuals. invite you to #Follow me & #REPOST 💫 this video to show your support VC - reserved to respective owners #kindness #humanity #inspiration #growthmindset #india
