Nine Skills of Great Consultant
A good consultant can make the difference for your organization. But, what is a good consultant? And, how to find one that is worth the fee? Look for these nine value-added skills.
Being a good consultant isn’t easy. You need to be a jack of all trades to help your client and warrant the often high fees asked. As part of the research done for my book, “Strategy Consulting,” I’ve identified nine skills a good consultant has:
1. Attentive Listener. Be attentive and keep a close eye and ear on what is happening, and on what is being said and not said. Ask many questions and be comfortable with silence.
2. Principal investigator. Guide the gathering of information, judgments and opinions. Identify patterns and generate insights that other people do not see.
3. Discussion Leader. Foster a productive dialogue and make sure that people contribute, listen to each other and generate insights and decisions in a collaborative way.
4. Critical Inspirator. Bring in refreshing opinions and ideas that people within the organization have not thought of. Challenge the ideas and views held by the client.
5. Communication Channel. Use what you pick up and channel it to those who need to hear it. Don’t gossip and always be ethical, keep the organization’s interest in mind.
6. Progress Manager. Monitor and make sure sufficient progress is made and that things proceed according to plan. Guide the organization and adjust when necessary.
7. Stable Anchor. Serve as an emotionally stable “tower of strength” who maintains and creates the necessary calm in the organization while going through change.
8. Moral Guide. Apply high moral standards and influence the client’s ethics. Don’t preach or lecture, but guide the organization toward what is right.
9. Practical Educator. Share knowledge and skills with the client in order to improve their capabilities. Create an environment that stimulates and supports learning by doing.
For all consultants: do you have these nine skills and do you apply them in your work?
For all clients of consultants: does your consultant have these nine skills?
If so, great. If not, you know what to do.

Meeting Effectiveness tips
Many people resist meetings because there are too many, with too many participants and too little focus. Remembering these six tips upfront will boost your meeting effectiveness.
Meetings can be effective and efficient ways of communication because they enable lively interaction between two or more people. The unfortunate fact, though, is that many meetings are not at all effective or efficient..
To boost your meeting’s efficiency and effectiveness, answer these six questions BEFORE every meeting.
1. What to talk about?
If there is nothing to talk about, there is no need for a meeting. Focused attention is key. Make sure there is an agenda and send it out in advance so that everyone knows the purpose and content of the meeting. Stick to it and don’t end up in broad discussions.
2. Who should be there?
Everyone necessary for making a decision or taking action should be there. No more and no less. Additional people will lose interest, while meetings with fewer people will remain inconclusive. It’s not always required to habitually meet with the entire team.
3. When should it be?
The timing of meetings is important. If held too early, not all necessary information might be available and, if held too late, much of the usefulness of the meeting is lost since decisions have already been made elsewhere. So, time well and plan ahead.
4. How long does it last?
Decide upfront how long the meeting will last and stick to it. Manage time well, and preferably don’t plan meetings longer than one hour because you’ll lose focus and pace.
5. What to deliver?
Make sure every meeting ends with clear action points with a date and designate someone to be responsible. In the end, the purpose of the meeting is not meeting, but doing something.
6. When to meet next?
Every meeting requires follow-up and usually that is done in a next meeting. Make sure you have that meeting planned (thereby keeping the previous five points in mind!)
It’s primarily the meeting organizer’s job to make sure that these guidelines are followed. However, it’s everyone’s responsibility that this way of having meetings becomes the normal way of working.
Which question is bothering you most? Do something about it!

Best Leadership Styles
You may have a particular leadership style that works best for you. However, the nature your leadership attitude should be in a way as I term it ‘beyond colour’ - transparent.
The message I want to drive home is that, as a leader you do not have to wear many masks and put on different facades to please people and amass your followers or be in the bandwagon of ‘orange is the new black.’ You need not re-invent the wheel, because in our Eastern philosophy it is said that if a man’s character and nature is ‘Vairagya’ i.e., transparent (colourless like water) then every possible dimension of life will pass through it, and when this happens it becomes the seat of holistic experience, knowledge accrual and building your conscious wisdom. As a leader if you are transparent, then you radiate honesty, values, compassion, commitment, influence, accountability, clear communication, sound judgement and empathy through the core of your character-grit. All this happens when you think, speak and act transparently. Admired leaders who leave legacy footprints, never look up (pander) to someone or look down upon anyone. They look at people and situations as they are. You don’t lead because you have to build followers. You don’t lead because you have to be famous. You lead because you need it in yourself, and that battle within yourself. Leadership is not about motivation, it is passion. If you want to drive that passion up to create that level of influence, sometimes you must be the odd cat. This skillful art comes from one attribute – YOUR ATTITUDE. Your mindset to see things transparently - as they are. Leadership is a way of life, an energy that has the potential to transform people to a different level of performance. Leaders need to keep in mind that their attitude is a product of their beliefs. So what attitude are you demonstrating as a leader to create a psychologically safe culture? #leadershipexcellence #leadershipmindset

CLASSIFICATION OF SCHOOL RECORDS
*CLASSIFICATION OF SCHOOL RECORDS*
The school keeps many records which could be classified into two:
1) Statutory Records
2) Non-Statutory Records.
Statutory Records
These are records prescribed by the education law/edict. They are records, which must be kept in all schools in the education system. Statutory records are therefore mandatory and each school is expected to present them on demand to constituted authorities.
Non-Statutory Records
Are records considered useful by the school for Internal consumption. They are not mandatory but voluntarily kept by the school, because of their functional value. It is not legally binding that a school must keep them but it is used for the day to day running of the school.
The Statutory Records:
1) The Class Attendance Register
The register is a book in which the presence and absence of pupils/students in the school is recorded on daily basis.
2) The Dairy (Teacher's Record of Work)
Used for recording what has been done at the end of the week and what is recorded is actually what the teacher has completed. It is a weekly assignment.
3) The Admission Register

4) The Log Book
This is a confidential record, which is kept by the principal or school head. No unauthorized person has access to it. The log book is the most secret book taking care of the teachers and students and what they have been doing.
The log book is used in recording events like absence from duty by any staff member including the head and visits to school by important personnel. Since the log book contains vital and confidential information or records, it must be well preserved. When properly kept, the log book serves as a historical record.
5) Staff Records
This record contains staff details such as name of staff, sex age, permanent address, qualifications with dates obtained, area of specialization, date of resumption of duty, marital status, number of children, present salary, promotion tabulated in years, date of resignation from school, salary on leaving, reasons for leaving, last pay certificate (LPC), state of origin, local government area of origin and home town.

Just as the scheme of work is drawn from the syllabus so is the lesson note or plan drawn from the scheme of work.
Lesson notes/plan demand that teachers should select topics from the scheme of work and write very clear lessons with specific and measurable objectives. This should be kept in files or in note books provided for that purpose. Minutes of meetings expected to be kept in schools include staff meetings, board of governors or directors, PTA, etc.
